Yes,  TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

The government is using study groups and psychologists to determine what wording to use against us and where to tax america without extreme outrage.  The scheming and deception has crossed the line,  and in my view, criminal.

The state should only raise taxes when money is needed for essential purposes. This state is swimming in money right now.

Taxing a legal product because "you" think it's unhealthy is so un-American. Why not slap a 400% tax increase on McDonalds or Twinkies? Obesity is now killing more than smoking. How about skydiving lessons?

Anyway, the people of ND were dumb enough at the last election to approve the creation of this committee that advertised itself as a committee that was going to properly spend the tobacco settlement money. Well, it's just a group of control freaks that want to dictate how you should live your life.

By the way, I don't smoke, never have.

I see the point about the high-raise tax that is definately drastically high.

I also would like to see certain family members of mine not smoke so this in a sense makes me very happy because they stated if prices increase they would not be able afford them.  It makes me happier because they will improve their health in that area.

When does this go in to affect? Anytime soon?

HEavy rains in the east usa, very dry in western saskatchewan, india has untimely rains, pakistan is dry, looks like a a very large shorage of wheat this year. The sky is the limit on how high wheat prices can go this year. Reply...

In Article: re: Petitions Circulate for South Heart Plant Support
Apparently when you come into an area bragging about "economic development" and promises of all this revenue coming into the area, logic gets blinded by dollar signs.  What about water?  Evidently the farmers and ranchers in this area are on their own with this battle... sacrificed so the state can pimp itself out to the coal industry?  They- the government- will have to find alternative water sources when they try to wash away the shame- which they will- when the company is begging for tax relief after its operating in the red.  Funny, "I told you so" wont even be worth it. In Article: re: Petitions Circulate for South Heart Plant Support

I am concerned citizen of Stark County.  More than a little worried about what the coal gasification plant will do to our environment, ground water, etc.  My family has lived in this area for over 80 years, am not against econcomic development but I do not want to wake up every morning looking at the pollution this plant will spew into the air.

Has anyone done any more research on the Beulah plant 25 years after the fact?  Latest info found was from the late 80's and there a a lot of "we think" comments in the article as far as effects on the water, air, human health etc.

Attended the last meeting of Great Northern. I was not impressed with the Beulah rep, nor the job service info that was handed out.  Statistics of education in ND is small % of college grads, is that the reason GN is here?  Do they think North Dakotans won' t know any better to protest and we just look to make a quick buck or is it that we are expendable because of our small population ??  Just because our citizens do not have college education does not mean we are are not educated, we just do not have the piece of paper to back it up.

My family lives in North Dakota by CHOICE, we may not be rich but money is not everything. We live here because we love the peace and quiet, no traffic or pollution.

Its Hodell, bird brain, dont break your arm patting yourself on the back.

So you can google- congratulations. I am missing your point... we have all seen these slides...

I think the suffering of 80 farmers and ranchers is a pretty big deal. I think that if you could see past your own selfish agenda and feel a little compassion, imagine if it were your family faced with this? Would you stand up and preach about the jobs? Or would you cower in your basement and post under a fake name, insulting them?

I think the problem here is you lack a heart. And a brain, but some things cant be changed. (no matter what the wizard tells you)  I think its safe to say you probably arent capable of caring about others, so you might as well channel your energy into something more productive.  posting links to old news isnt helpful- no matter how warm and fuzzy it makes you feel inside- you are still the same douchebag.

Give my love to your mother.  :) Have a good night- better luck tomorrow.

See, a little research doesn't hurt.

Can you think of any other way of adding $1.6 million to the county tax roll in the next 5-10 years? No other manufacturer seems interested in this area (TMI and Baker Boy chase them away, of course).... and you still don't understand that the coal WILL be excavated one way or another. Why do you not understand that? Because of our current dependence on our current energy infrastructure, coal is in great need for the next 15-20 years. It will take us atleast that long to convert homes to solar/wind.

I will say again, the benefit of SW North Dakota - - wait, the ENTIRE UPPER MIDWEST - - far outweights the "suffering" of 20 area farmers and ranchers. NIMBY is such a silly concept.

BTW, I took you up on the 700 jobs in the county argument.... sure, there are about a dozen-or-so good paying, entry level oil jobs, but the vast majority are pizza delivery, cooks, or paper boys. I bet the median salary was around $11.00, hardly enough to support a family.

I, for one, won't allow a few whiny people stand in the way of better roads, schools, and jobs for my children. If the ND Health Department okays and air permit, that's healthy enough for me.

Lashing out at me is not going to even the score. You were wrong. On a level you would understand, nah nah nah nah nah nah!

Sucks to be wrong, doesnt it? Well, get used to it.  You are sadly uninformed. Me and Oprah agree.

Geez Mary, you dumb box of rocks. Did you ever think some improvements might have been made to the LURGI gasifier since they installed it in Beulah? If you really want me to get technical, the one proposed is LURGI II. Seems to me, you should spend more time actually researching what they are proposing rather than just assume they are evil and make baseless claims.

Have you gone out of your way to contact an independent industrial engineer and asked them what they thought? I doubt it. You are just living in your own Oprah episode.

Get over yourself, your crusade, and your fantasy life. GNP is coming, whether you like it or not.

Seems these businesses come in from the outside with promises of good paying jobs, help the local economy, etc. etc.... The boys in Bismarck give them the tax breaks with no strings attached......and wouldn't you know very few local people are hired. With a college in about every town we are the most educated bunch of workers in the US. Reply...

AND by the way, bird boy, the Beulah plant already uses the Lurgi gasifier... your sources are not that bright, are they?  You are 0 for 0. Better luck next time.

Neal Messer! Shame on you for signing that woman's name! That shows just how immature and underhanded you and the others involved in this coal epidemic really are. Buying drinks for people to sign a petition?! Disgraceful!

But don't worry Mary, we the people of Stark County see what is going on. This behavior does not go unnoticed.

Oh, F-16, good to see you still havent found a life. How is your mother?

I really am not interested in how you and your "inside sources" feel about my "crusade". I am interested in how the 85 people living around this plant site feel. Shouldnt they get a say in what destroys their homes and livelihoods?

Go on the job service website- there are HUNDREDS of jobs in the area- good paying jobs. Out in the oilfield- no experience and you can make $27/hour... why cant they find help? I dont know- I suppose some people do not like to have to work hard. (I guess it is easier to sponge off your parents, right?)

I suppose when you have no conscience or compassion, its easy to care about only yourself. But those of us who give a damn will keep on fighting for what we know is right- no amount of "posting" will get me to do otherwise.

So, maybe you and your sources can channel your efforts to something more useful- maybe they can help you move out of mommys basement and get a job! (and a life)

Oh, and your SW water sources are uninformed. South Heart already has SW water- has had it for 12 years in some places. But why should ranchers have to start paying for water when they have paid to drill wells to water cattle?

Sometimes its hard to make that first step in caring about others, instead of yourself.  I will keep you in my prayers that someday you will be blessed to put others before yourself!

Still with the wishful thinking, huh Mary? I just caught a loophole of your own thinking on your last few posts. So you want our kids to stick around because they will have so-called clean air to breath. For one, they won't be sticking around to breath that air because THERE ARE NO NEW JOBS HERE. Why can't you get that through your thick skull? As I've said before, the LURGI method produces 90% less CO2 than the plants in Beulah (I have a direct, independent source on that figure, btw). So yes, there will be emissions, but 90% of it is captured and put into the ground to HELP WITH OIL PRODUCTION. Seems like that's another benefit.

I have a close connection with someone on the SW Pipeline who said they intend to take their service all the way to Beach. Seems to me South Heart lies between, so your neighbors who are complaining about losing their groundwater will have the chance to hook up to SW.... clean, clearer water anyway. Yet another benefit.

You think you are doing our area a favor with your crusade.... but it's a hopeless cause. A LOT of people think that you and everyone against the plant just needs to shut up and let this thing happen.... because it will, with out without a survey. You are delaying the inevitable and making a lot of people mad in the process. I've happily signed the petition in SUPPORT of the plant... I even went ahead and forged your name on there too.

In Article: re: Petitions Circulate for South Heart Plant Support

This mighty coal company has said they will hire locals, but in reality, if it is a "state of the art" plant, are they going to hire inexperienced workers? Maybe to clean the restrooms, but I doubt they will just hire kids out of high school, like they are promising.

The thing is, the company has made all sorts of promises- but there has been nothing to back them up- "we will replace wells, IF PROVEN we are at fault"...  You dont have to have a law degree to smell the loopholes...

Luckily there are enough landowners banding together, saying NO to this evil company... There is strength in numbers and some people do care more about their neighbors than money.

I was surprised that the state did not mandate an environmental impact study on every business that could negatively impact our resources. We need jobs in ND for North Dakota residents. Is the plant going to hire ND workers to build it? Reply...

Hey 2 dots:

As a county HEALTH employee, I would think you should know better. This isnt all about money- South Heart is a beautiful small town, so unlike Gladstone, and we want to keep it that way. The ability to BREATHE fresh clean air seems like a fair trade to a full classroom.  Yes, we will go on as we have for the last 100 years: producing top of the line wheat/durum and other small grains.  We will go on watering the beef cattle that feed soooo many people.  We will go on raising healthy kids- Ms. Regional Information Officer- what is our Asthma and respiratory illness rate as compared to the "asthma triangle" of Beulah, Washburn, and Center.  I have talked to experts- I have read health studies, studies that YOU should have been aware of.  I am sorry, MA'AM, but its really SAD when money matters more than our children. Are our children going to stick around where their kids develop health problems? Maybe yours will, but thats just SAD.

What happened to compassion and caring about your fellow man? What happened to wanting your neighbors to continue to live their lives as they have? WHO cares if you are ready for a change and willing to sacrifice our area and our homes. WE are not willing to sacrifice our HOMES and LIVELIHOODS.

I also cannot believe that posting in supprt of GNPD is in your job description... shame on you.  As a HEALTH professional, I would have thought money would take a back seat to the publics health.  You my friend, lack class- and thats something NO amount of money will buy!
