Well Dorgan's decision had a lot to do with it. Hoeven has never been a tough battle for anything in his life. He knew he couldn't beat Dorgan. I don't like Dorgan either, but I think Dorgan would have been Hoeven. Hoeven just isn't a brave person and Dorgan would have pounced on that. Personally I don't think Hoeven could beat Pomeroy either. Don't be surprised if there is a third party break and the Democrats take the seat. Hoeven has made way to many enemies and I think that will be reflected at the poll. Reply...

The Skinner hill I was talking about is the hill that goes straight south on county rd 19.  It is a good paved road that goes south from what used to be Johns Cafe and garage.  the highway goes to Benedict, ND.  Are we talking about the same Skinner Hill?

As for the bank robbery in Sawyer, there are photos in the archives of the Ward County Historical Society.  The bank buildings are still standing.  They are on the corners of main street and are two old brick buildings.  One has been a cafe for years.  The other is now a bar.  I have a copy of the story written by Violet Ballentyne in 1962.  I got it at the all school reunion last summer.  I don't know how I would ever get you a copy.   You are welcome to it though.  I sure wish we could contact people with a private message on this board.  It would be conveinent sometimes.   I spose it is for safety sake.

Have you ever been to some of the old cemetary's around Minot area?  I like to look at them and read the stones.  My grandfather homesteaded about 5 miles southwest of Sawyer back in the early 1900's.  I have very little information on the area other then the report from the Sawyer bank robbery.

All good stuff

I don't know about a Skinner family.  I do know that there is a hill in the Sawyer area (I think it is county road 19) that is called Skinner hill.  Have you heard of that? Reply...

KX,

It is not that I don't like Custer history, it is that it is more to read then I have time to read.  I have many tasks since I am married to a person who can do nothing physical.  I am a busy lady.  I try to work here and there as well and then of course I love to spoil a group of 3  grandchildren in Fargo.

I have been to the Custer house in Mandan and we did go to the battle site for battle of the little big horn in Wyoming.  It was many years ago but I did like it.  I love to watch things like that on the history channel.  In fact not long ago I watched a documentary on the bullistics of the battle of Custer and how the bullets they find are changing what was always beleived to be true.  I like the history channel and watch it a lot.  Not long ago I watched a documentary on the Viet Nam conflict.  Since my sweet hubby served there as a feild medic, I watched it to know what he saw there.  I am interested in lots of history...

Have you ever looked at the history behind the bank robbery in Sawyer, ND back in the late 1800's and the early 1900's?  I just got a paper that was written by a history teacher in the 60's about it.  I am a native of Sawyer so I found that to really peak my interest.

One thing I would love to do is go to Washington DC and see all the history there.  I like to learn about the civil war and find the time leading up to it to be a very romantic time in history.  I think I have a jaded veiw because I liked the book Gone With the Wind and that got me started.  When I visited New Orleans back in the 80's I did some looking at history as it pertained to the war.  It is a facinating place to go to look at history.  I expected Rhett Butler to come out of the nearest cat house at any minuete.  :)

I am not sure if you want comment on this thread or not but...anyway....I have read some of this ND history.  Have you ever thought of putting together a web site (or maybe you have) with all the information you have gathered?  It is interesting and I think it would be a great thing for the arkives of North Dakotans.

I have not read it all because of time but will continue to work at it.  thank you for the info.  Just curious, where do you find it all?

Time really is fast moving. It rapidly changes everything and it forces the people to move faster. Much faster than the financial regulation that is being passed in the Senate and much more faster than the country's recovery from recession.

Maybe you are the child molester you think you know everything I grew up in a very agricultural area, in North Dakota. You probably aren't even from North Dakota or live here because if you were, you wouldnt talk that way. There is lots of help out there for persons of sexual abuse and molestation. If I ever saw you I would definitely kick the crap out of you for making such false accusations of my state of North Dakota. Reply...

In Article: Child Abduction or Child Protection????
Is it a good idea to use people's real names here? And you sent a 12 year old out of state to help someone raise a child? The 12 year old IS a child and has no business raising someone else's kid. She needs to be out playing, living her own life. Don't get her involved in all the drama. Think before you react and maybe keep the dirty laundry out of the public's eye? Those other people you mentioned by name aren't here to defend themselves against what might be total untruths, so this is not a fair way to deal with the problem. Reply...

It wouldn't shock me if the judges in North Dakota and members of the legislature enjoy having sex with children. That is why they help child molesters have sex with kids, because they are no doubt doing it themselves.

Adults in North Dakota love to screw kids, it is a way of life in north dakota. you don't believe me but it is true. Never take a child to north dakota.

It happens everywhere, but it is worse in agricultural states. It is considred 'normal' for adults to f*ck kids in ND.

Well obviously you dont know very much because I never wrote an affidavit. I am also not a paralegal. I don't have hate for people. One of my best friends is Native American and I also go to school at United Tribes, where you used to work I just have had a couple people get burned by the tribal system lately and these people think they can do what ever they want.

In Article: Bismarck lawmaker accused of assaulting wife
It's all too easy for the Representative to say domestic abuse is a private family matter. For years we have been saying that, and women continue to be abused because of it. The truth is, the representative committed a crime and should be held accountable for his behavior. Regardless of how the parties involve deal with the situation at home, it will happen again unless he is held to answer. Reply...

I know who you are stein_vi.  You work or worked for that nasty lawyer of Jessy Carlson’s as an office assistant/paralegal?  I believe you lied in an affidavit against me to help your beloved clients the Carlson’s, so your word is meaningless.  My name is Lisa Colombe and I thank my sister Lynne for all her support.

I can only offer my gratitude to all those who have supported the children and I in prayer.  The best interests of my children are in my thoughts, actions, prayers, and legal continuance.  Not all decisions I made were legally correct.  I just pray that people have good thoughts and prayers toward my children; sexual abuse of children is intolerable and is it also wrong to condone.

Bill Cosby said last fall on the Oprah Show, when a little girl is telling you someone is touching her, listen to her.  That is all I did, I listened to my daughter and found a wreck less legal and social services system that failed to protect the best interests of my children.  Many legal decisions and assumptions made against me are based on the fact I am Native American, Sicangu Lakota from Rosebud, SD.

On behalf of myself, all I can say is I did my best to shield my children against any suspicion of abuse and I will continue to advocate for any parent of any color to do the same.  God bless to everyone, I pray for a good road for my children to return home.  All my relatives.

P.S.

stein_vi is, my advise is don’t carry so much hate for people you don’t know and don’t fall in love with people you don’t know either.  Don’t judge until you have walked a mile in that person’s shoes.

Why not play the blame game? Why should my tax dollars go to people who CHOSE to live in the flood plane?

So then whose fault is it? If the floodstages of the river are known and you built at a level below a floodstage you should NEVER get a dime of tax dollars. I do not care if it is a $50 house or a $50 million dollar house, building below floodstage is your choice you live with it! Planning and zoning has one job, make sure that homes are built in safe areas, Jimmy B I think they failed!!

Where is the compassion? Tell me this if I built a house in the middle of the Interstate and it got hit by a semi and destroyed would you have compassion for me? I am willing to bet you would not, you would sit here and laugh at my stupidity, well guess what? I chose to not live in the flood plane and I have every right to question those who made the choice!

yeah ive got a buddy lives in tatley medows down south i was joking around that he must have paid a pretty penny for this riverside property, the water was right up to his house. And those residents in airport village or whichever its called are certainly not as wealthy as those on fox island and they have a lot of water... a lot Reply...

The first thing I thought of when I saw homes being built there was, what will happen if that river ice jammed. People need to move out of these areas. It may look good for awhile, but rivers do back up no matter how well we may think that we can manage them. Reply...

I remember 12-13 years ago when my husband and I lived in Bismarck, we would drive down to Fox Island and look at all of the beautiful houses and landscaping and dream of our own future... We also saw them bring in truckload after truckload of dirt to fill in the area so homes could be constructed... we both thought people were crazy for even thinking of building there... but alas, what happens? I really feel for these people, what a mess.

Fox Islanders and Bismark residents, my thoughts are with you, I wish I could leave work for a week and come down and fill sandbags next to home owners and good samaritans alike.
